For professionals working in the healthcare industry who would like to practise in Australia, we offer English for Healthcare Professionals (EHP). Learn English vocabulary associated with anatomy and physiology, symptoms and diagnosis, allied and mainstream health, sensitive issues, examining a patient, hygiene and infection control, medication and alternative treatments - all essential areas required to thrive in the Australian healthcare industry.

This course is specially designed to cater for students with a background in healthcare, nursing or medicine who need help to cope with higher level English language skills that are required to practise in an Australian Health workspace. It consists of theoretical and practical activities in a practical and interactive classroom setting.

During this course you will:

  • Develop English language skills to communicate at a level that meets Australian healthcare industry standards
  • Learn how to use appropriate English in a healthcare environment within an English speaking country
  • Increase your cultural understanding of an English speaking healthcare environment
  • Gain confidence in using English to communicate in a healthcare setting
  • Gain skills needed to sit an IELTS test
  • Practise skills and language necessary for the IELTS or Occupational English Test (OET)

In addition to on-campus General English study the students have to complete an Online EHP Course of their choice:

English For Health Professionals (Nurses): A course which provides students with an opportunity to develop their English language skills using target language concepts commonly associated with nurses and their job descriptions in a hospital or medical centre workplace in Australia (e.g.) communicating with patients, their families, and other health professionals in a workplace. This course would prove useful for any ELICOS students who have studied nursing in their countries in a language other than English

Recommended: 10 weeks to complete online

English For Health Professionals (Doctors): A course which provides students with an opportunity to develop their English language skills using target language concepts commonly associated with doctors and their job descriptions in a hospital or medical centre workplace in Australia (e.g.) medical consultations, conducting physical examinations, taking a patient history, explaining a diagnosis, involving the patient in appropriate management of health problems, providing counselling and reporting on test results. This course would prove useful for any ELICOS students who have studied a Bachelors/Master’s Degree in Medicine in their countries.

Recommended: 10 weeks to complete online

Following successful completion of both on-campus and online study, students can pursue further healthcare study options in Australia.
